First Collaborative Session

February 11th, 2022

In addition to having the students in Brand Identity with Professor Wynn design the elements of the exhibition, there is significant collaboration with Professor Robins and his specific history students who will be writing the information for the artifacts that will be displayed in the exhibition.

Throughout the semester, Professor Wynn and Professor Robin’s class will meet for four collaborative sessions where information, ideas, progress, etc. will be shared among the groups that the students have been placed into.

In the first meeting on February 11th, the collaborative class was simply meant to introduce the exhibition, and give a summary of what we will be completing as students. In addition to meeting with our groups and gaining a more complex understanding of the project, our groups were tasked to look at a group of names, taglines, and pitches that were originally put together in a mapping exercise by our design class. We chose ones that we liked, ones that we felt negatively about, and ones that we believe could work with some additional focus and tweaks.

Overall, I believe that the first collaborative class was beneficial, and proved to be a success. Meeting with our groups and understanding who will be working on which aspects provided me with confidence in the completion of the work.

Additionally, as a designer, it was interesting to hear the perspectives of how non-design students looked at the possible names, taglines, and pitches that our class presented. The history students preferred streamlined, basic, simple, and straightforward options rather than complicated and creative ones. These preferences did not come as a surprise per se, however, allowed me o gain a perspective on how most of the audience will feel. Knowing that our design class will ultimately meet again, I took this into consideration and have prioritized the simplest options rather than ones with more abstract and unique characteristics.
