Researching Professional Website and Social Media Examples

March 24th, 2022

Before leaving for break, Professor Wynn challenged us to again complete in-depth research and analysis on professional examples of exhibition websites and social media. Similar to my research for signage, patterns, and posters, I created a presentation that showcased the best examples that exemplify an extraordinary online presence. Below is a slideshow of all the research and examples I chose to showcase.

Website

When conducting my research, I focused on how each museum/exhibition utilized imagery and descriptions. Were the artifacts presented in a gallery format, or single full-page spreads? How did the website present headlines, and was the navigation properly designed for uncommon users? These were all questions that I kept in my head when finding professional examples of proper websites. From my research, I have come to the conclusion that presenting each category’s artifacts in a gallery formation is the best for viewing the collection from a distance. However, upon clicking on an item, more information will be displayed.

Social Media

As an individual who has grown and matured in the age of social media, I had preexisting ideas of how the exhibition may be displayed through social media. While these ideas still stand, my research into professional companies expanded my understanding of how one may be able to use social media in innovative and unique ways. For example, some museums provided use social media of all kinds to offer unique facts about their artifacts, present high-quality imagery, and much more. Social media, as a platform, presents vast and limitless opportunities. However, one must be reminded that using social media is difficult to navigate and master. Prioritizing aspects of uniqueness will promote your brand, show, and even exhibition to wider audiences.
